1. Schiaparelli x Dali

A surrealist dialogue between couture and painting. Beyond the Lobster Dress and the Shoe Hat, the collaboration extended into beauty - most notably the Shocking Radiance line, created while both were exiled in New York during the Second World War. Dalí’s dreamlike scenes, some echoing Botticelli, appeared across bottles, labels and advertisements, transforming cosmetic packaging into art. Launched in 1943, the project blurred the line between commerce and surrealism, reimagining how visual language could seduce through both image and object.

2. Chanel x Picasso

A quiet collision of Cubism and couture, where stage, canvas, and fashion converge. Chanel and Picasso first met in 1917 through mutual circles in Paris. In 1924, Chanel designed the costumes for Diaghilev’s Le Train Bleu, a modernist ballet for the Ballets Russes set against Picasso’s painted backdrop Deux femmes courant sur la plage (La course).

Chanel’s early designs echoed Cubist form: strict lines, chromatic restraint, the discipline of collage. Picasso’s influence revealed itself not in prints or motifs, but in the structure — the way her clothes framed space and body. Both sought clarity through reduction. Art became fashion’s framework; fashion, its quiet echo.

3. David Lynch x Louboutin

Christian Louboutin, Fetish collection (2007)

A noir-inflected liaison between cinema and stilettos. In 2007, Christian Louboutin invited director David Lynch to photograph his Fetish exhibition — an uncanny intersection of fear, desire, and footwear. The imagery is at once sculptural and hallucinatory, reminiscent of Lynch’s filmic obsessions. Shoes become surreal tableaux — legs aloft, shadows sharpened, presence magnified.

Lynch’s lens turned Louboutin’s function into fetish, creating visual narratives to be consumed, not just worn. The collaboration reframed a luxury object into cinematic allegory — a liminal space where fashion and film converse. 4. Saint Laurent x Piet Mondrian

In 1965, Yves Saint Laurent translated modern art into motion. His Mondrian Collection reduced couture to geometry — wool jersey dresses constructed from precise blocks of red, blue, yellow, and white framed by black lines. Nothing printed, nothing decorative; each panel cut and assembled like a painting.

The collection blurred the line between garment and canvas. The body became architecture — colour and form in movement. What Mondrian sought on canvas, Saint Laurent achieved through cloth: purity, balance, order. It was fashion as composition, a study in restraint that quietly redefined the relationship between art and wearability.

5. Jeff Koons x Louis Vuitton

In 2017, Louis Vuitton invited Jeff Koons to re-imagine its iconic monogram canvas. The Masters collection transported canvases by Da Vinci, Van Gogh, Rubens and more onto Speedys, Neverfulls and Keepalls — each piece emblazoned with the artist’s name in bold metallic letters and tagged with Koons’ inflatable rabbit motif. The result: a museum-of-luxury at arm’s length, where heritage and hyper-brand meet, and the old masters go for $4,000.

6. Karl Lagerfield x Pharrell Williams

In 2014, Karl Lagerfeld turned heritage into myth. The short film Reincarnation, starring Pharrell Williams, Cara Delevingne and Géraldine Chaplin, imagined the moment Coco Chanel found inspiration for her iconic jacket — a bellboy’s uniform reborn as couture. Part campaign, part fantasy, the piece blurred cinema, fashion and folklore. It was Chanel’s history rendered as dream sequence: brand narrative as moving image.

8. Alexander McQueen x Damien Hirst

For the tenth anniversary of McQueen’s skull scarf, Damien Hirst reimagined the motif through kaleidoscopic symmetry. Thirty designs, drawn from his Entomology series, replaced bones with butterflies and beetles — anatomy turned pattern, mortality disguised as ornament. Released alongside a short film by Sølve Sundsbø, the collaboration merged repetition, beauty, and decay into a single gesture. A meditation on transformation — and the enduring elegance of the macabre.
